This class is the best baby “equipment” we purchased. Susan is a warm, engaging, and extremely knowledgeable teacher and guide to pregnancy, labor, and infant care. Her class gave me the information and confidence I needed to meaningfully support and advocate for my wife and child during the whole nine months. It is worth every penny and I cannot recommend it enough.

Thank you for your amazing class. I really had to convince Rick to take it, but as soon as Charlotte was born he said, “We need to send Susan a gift. She really prepared us for the birth.” Your class mentally prepared me. I can never repay you for the way my husband looked at me in awe when we got to the birth center at 9cm. I guess since I was so calm he (actually we) didn’t think I was nearly that far along. We do not plan to have any more children, so we feel so blessed that we had such an amazing birth experience and we 100% contribute that to your class. Since I only get to experience the miracle of birth once, I’m so glad I was able to do it as planned without any interventions.

Thank you again for being such a great instructor and also for bending over backwards for us when Charlotte was born and we needed lactation support STAT! When we were freaking out about our daughter not eating, I looked at Rick and yelled, “Call Susan!!!” I just knew you would be there for us. It’s so obvious that you love your job. Keep up the good work!! I know you will continue to bless many more couples the way you blessed us.

A positive force of nature. My wife and I constantly referred to Susan with this moniker as it seemed most accurately to describe her affect. Compassionate, nurturing, and supportive, Susan always made us feel more at ease and more confident about the birthing experience. As I reflect on my son’s birth day, I can not imagine going through that experience without Susan as our doula.

Striking a balance between letting me be the leader as husband-coach and keeping everything on track from behind-the-scenes, Susan is so uniquely fitted for this meaningful support role. Always ready with a bottle of water, another massage gizmo, or just loving words, she became the natural balm my wife and I needed to see through to our goals. Instinctively, Susan knew just when to get out of the way and when to help lead the way. Throughout the wild journey, I was so re-assured every time I looked to Susan, knowing my wife was in good hands. She was our rock. I feel forever indebted to Susan for helping me in supporting my wife through the most powerful moment of our lives. Thank you, Susan.

Doula Support

During my first birth experience, things didn’t go as planned – our daughter was breech and required a c-section delivery. At the start of my second pregnancy, I set to researching everything I could about VBACs and the factors that increase success. A repeated suggestion? Hire a doula! My mind immediately jumped to Susan, who had masterfully led our Bradley class. Both my husband and I not only liked her immensely, we trusted her implicitly. As a bonus, we knew she had experience with other VBAC deliveries and was also a regular presence on the UNC L&D floor.

When the day finally came, Susan far exceeded our already extremely high expectations. What I appreciated most about her was the perfect balance she maintained of being both a comforter and a taskmaster. Toward the end, Susan had to repeat the same reminders at every contraction – quite literally! Yet all the while, her own tone was so gentle and full of compassion, even as she too was fighting exhaustion after a long night of active labor support. Her words and actions were so tender, like my own mother, and when I couldn’t submerge my belly in the tub because lying on my side was unbearable, she scooped warm water into a cup and poured it over my tummy again and again. I felt incredibly loved and supported!

After two grueling hours of pushing, I had the joy of watching my husband (!) catch our son and lay him on my belly. Not only was Susan the one who suggested we consider a “daddy catch,” she captured all of it on camera for us to marvel at later – truly, a moment neither of us will ever forget! Our little fella is nearly two months old now, but we cannot stop raving about our birth experience to family and friends – or even strangers! Susan played an irreplaceable role in our son’s safe arrival, helping us achieve an unmedicated, vaginal birth after a cesarean. So whether you are counting down to your 1st birth or your 5th, do yourself a favor: include Susan on your birth team!

I am so thankful that we had Susan Rotman to prepare us for the beautiful, unmedicated birth of our son, Jude. I had decided while I was in medical school that, when the time came, I would do whatever I could to avoid having the doctor-centered labor and birth process that I had witnessed time and again.

I was particularly horrified by the slippery slope of unnecessary interventions I saw which led to unnecessary c-sections. There is simply no good reason for one of every three babies in our country to be cut out of Mom. So, when the time came, I researched natural childbirth classes and decided to study the Bradley Method. Susan was the first Bradley instructor I called, and I never needed to call another! She immediately took me under her wing and exuded confidence to me that she would be able to help us gain the knowledge we needed to allow for an unmedicated birth, even in today’s radical birth culture that encourages mothers to succumb to interventions far too quickly. Susan welcomed three other couples and us into her home and guided us passionately through the Bradley Method. She fed us healthy and delicious food each week, and kept our attention with various types of activities and even special guests! She kept up with us through the week to make sure we were doing okay and still learning. We had incredible fun and were full of joy as we gained the confidence to be able to have our son naturally. I was especially grateful that she taught my husband what to expect and how to be my coach. Using the knowledge she shared, he was awesome! Our labor and delivery was everything we hoped it would be. I am very proud to share our birth story. I am very proud to look at my precious son and know that he was given a peaceful entrance into this world without drugs or any other unnecessary shocks to his system. I wish every expectant couple had a Susan Rotman. I’m sure glad we did!

Infant CPR Classes

I took the Infant CPR class with Susan. Between the video, demonstration & practice with the manikins, I felt confident I could take care of my baby. I HIGHLY recommend this for any parent or care giver!
